The evening in Maple Lake was incredible. Much of the film was handled by Mitchel and Nicole Kruex with help from Mayor Mike O’Loughlin, James Norgard, and Nick Markgraff. The residents of Maple Lake were primed and ready to work hard for the evening, the team had a blast with them!! They started the day at the Maple Lake Bowling Alley. Mitchel, Tommy, and Nicole spent the morning bowling for the camera and gathering amazing footage thanks to owners Lynette and Jerry. They spent the remainder of the afternoon with Mike O’Loughlin eating brats and doughnuts and then shot additional footage on main street in Maple Lake!!

The day was incredible and stress free!! It’s starting to feel like the movie Monsters with a real indy sized budget.

Mitch and Nicole spend the evening out in Maple Lake working with the City Council to approve shooting around town!! After a few questions asked they were cleared with a unanimous YES from the town council… Welcome to Maple Lake Discursion!!

OFFICIAL MAPLE LAKE CITY COUNCIL MINUTES:

TRIWAR Pictures Proposal for Maple Lake
Nicole Kruex, Producer, and Mitchel Jones, Director, of an upcoming feature film entitled
Discursion, were present requesting the Council’s permission to use portions of Maple Lake for their
film. They would like to use downtown Birch Avenue, Maple Lake Bowl, the grain elevator, a
residential area just outside of downtown, an abandoned home on the lake, a vacation property, and a
farm house with barn. It will involve a handful of scenes and will take place on March 19-20, after
11 p.m. until 3-4 a.m. Kruex stated that 10 – 20 people will be needed to be extras in the film and
stated that there will be no noise and limited intrusion during the shoot. In exchange for permission,
they will provide a 5-10 minute documentary of Maple Lake as well as behind the scenes segment
which would also highlight their shoot in Maple Lake. O’Loughlin reported that he had contacted
another city where they have filmed and that the city spoke highly of the crew. Kruex reported that
they have contacted a few local businesses already and that they are excited for the opportunity to
showcase their businesses in the film. Kruex also stated that they will return in late summer to hold a
screening of the film for the town when the feature is scheduled to be released to the public. City
staff was instructed to notify residents adjacent to the area where filming will take place. A motion
was m/s/p, Dircks/Kissock, permitting TRIWAR Pictures to film in Maple Lake on March 19-20,
2011, requesting TRIWAR to supply the City with a Certificate of Insurance naming the City as an
additional named insured, and instructing city staff to assist TRIWAR as needed. Voting Aye:
Dircks, Geyen, Kissock, Northenscold, and O’Loughlin.

So Director Mitchel A. Jones and Nicole Kruex spent most of the fridged cold of February trying to lock down locations for the remainder of the shoot. They’ve found a quaint little town on the edge of the Twin Cities to shoot additional footage of the last half of the film. They meet with the Mayor this Saturday to lock down the roads for two nights and then the following weekend we re-engage in principle photography.

The opening shoot in Shell Lake proved to be cold and entertaining all at the same time. The crew had fun although the 12 degree weather beat on all of them heavily. But…Anything for film right??
